Born Robert Allen Zimmerman, in Duluth, Minnesota, Dylan’s father’s grandparents emigrated from Odessa in the Russian Empire (in the country now known as Ukraine) during the anti-Semitic programs of nineteen oh-five! Equally important is his mother’s grandparents, who were also Jewish emigrates, coming to the US from Lithuania! Suffice to say, Dylan’s parents were part of the area’s close-knit Jewish community, and the family lived in Duluth until Dylan turned six, when Polio struck his father, and the family were forced to move to his mother’s home town in Hibbing. Spending his early years listening solely to the radio, Dylan soon developed a love for both rock and roll, and blues music. Forming several bands in High school, the young musician became popular for playing covers by Little Richard, Elvis Presley and the like, and one particular story speaks about a high school talent show, in which Bob Dylan and his band’s performance of Danny and the Juniors “Rock and Roll is Here to Stay” was so loud that the principal actually cut the mic!

At the fresh age of eighteen, Bob Dylan moved to Minneapolis, enrolling in the University of Minnesota! It was at this time that Dylan began to discover his love of folk music and in a later biographic interview he mused “The thing about rock’n’roll is that for me anyway it wasn’t enough... There were great catch-phrases and driving pulse rythms... but the songs weren’t serious or didn’t reflect life in a realistic way. I knew that when I got into folk music, it was more of a serious type of thing. The songs are filled with more despair, more sadness, more triumph, more faith in the supernatural, much deeper feelings.” As expected the singer relocated to New York in search for a record deal, alongside visiting musical idol Woody Guthrie. Playing at a number of clubs in New York’s Western residential neighbourhood of Greenwich Village, word spread fast of Bob Dylan’s work, with the singer/songwriter gaining a positive review from The New York Times’ Robert Shelton! This time proved particularly impressive for Dylan as this was also when he signed with Columbia Records, after gaining the attention of John Hammond! Interestingly, Dylan’s debut album Bob Dylan actually sold pretty poorly, selling only five thousand copies, breaking even with Columbia’s expenditure! How much has changed since his humble beginnings, so buy your Bob Dylan tickets now, here at Ticketbis!

Bob Dylan stands as one of America’s most influential Rock & Roll artists for almost fifty years! While his songs such as “Blowin’ in the Wind”, “All Along the Watchtower” and “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” have all in their own way become iconic tracks, Bob Dylan constantly remains to steadfast in his endeavour to create new and innovative music! While his old age certainly affects many of the tracks that he performed in his youth, there’s now a reverence to his work in a similar way that Leonard Cohen and even Springfield captivate their audiences! With Dylan having centred around the infamous “Going Electric” controversy, that split many of Dylan’s fans down the middle, when Dylan infamously decided to play an electric set of his album Bringing It All Back Home during  the nineteen sixty-five Newport Folk Festival!

This dogmatic integrity has forever remained a part of what makes Bob Dylan so polarising to fans and critics alike, but it has proved one thing, those loyal to his craft will forever follow their legendary songwriter! Ever the type to expand and experiment, Dylan released his single “Like a Rolling Stone” which has since been credited to changing the general attitudes of what can be said through a pop single, fellow legendary songwriter Bruce Springsteen was even quoted on referencing the single, saying “that snare shot sounded like somebody’d kicked open the door to your mind.” The single has since been listed twice at number one in Rolling Stone’s “The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time”! So don’t waste a moment more and buy your Bob Dylan tickets now, here at Ticketbis!
