Open'er Festival Background Info
The first ever Open’er Festival took place in 2002 and the biggest act featured was the chemical brothers. From 2003, the event was hosted at Gdynia and initially, Kosciuszko Square was used for the occasion. However, so many people were buying Open'er Festival tickets that this venue became too small. In 2006, the event moved to Gdynia- Kosakowo Airfield.
As the event continued to expand, the organisers realised they needed more stages to accommodate the artists. In 2008, seven stages were built for the festival and each of these had a theme. These included the main stage, a young talent stage, two electronic spaces, an alter space and a world stage.
From 2011, the organisers of Open’er Festival have added even more entertainment for people attending the event in addition to the festivals. For example, some attractions added in previous years have included a Ferris wheel, a children’s area, a fashion stage and a disco. More attractions were added in 2013 to keep the growing crowds happy. Theatrical performances took place and the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw held an exhibition at the event.
Although this festival began as a one day event back in 2002, by 2015 the program was extended to four days. This was due to a demand for tickets and to accommodate a jam-packed program of performances. As the popularity of Open’er Festival has grown it has attracted many major stars who are keen to perform at this top event. Just some of these include Pharrell Williams, Kanye West, Sex Pistols, Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian, Rihanna and Kings of Leon.
