Paul Simon is of course most famous as one half of the group Simon and Garfunkel, the duo that rose to fame in the 1970s. Paul Simon wrote nearly all of Simon and Garfunkel’s songs, including hits like Mrs Robinson, The Boxer and of course Bridge Over Troubled Water. After moving away from working with Art Garfunkel, Simon began experimenting with world music, particularly that of African origin. His most celebrated solo work is his 1986 album Graceland, which is made up of an eclectic mix of pop, a cappella, rock and mbaqanga. This record propelled Simon back into the mainstream and is best known for spawning You Can Call Me Al, an upbeat song about a man experiencing an identity crisis.
