Portland Timbers background
This section should discuss history, milestones, live performance and any other relevant and interesting information for fans and ticket buyers.
In 2014 The Portland Timbers formed their own USL Pro team, with the aim of running a team that would aid in the development of youth players and feed the senior team with high-level talent. The second side started out at Merlo Field, the University of Portland's soccer stadium and played out their first two seasons there. They now play at Providence Park, sharing the 20,000 capacity stadium with the senior side. In their inaugural season, the second team finished in 8th place in the Western Conference, notching 11 wins and suffering 15 defeats. Despite the team missing out on the major honours, T2 star Kharlton Belmar picked up the award for USL Rookie of the Year and made the All-League Second Team.In 2016, T2 finished in 9th place in the Western Conference and went into the final game of the regular season with the chance to clinch the last spot in the USL playoffs. Despite defeating Arizona United in their final game T2 narrowly missed out as Orange County won their final game and ended the season with a better goal difference than T2.

Portland Timbers 2 rivalries
This section should be about any of the following topics: other career milestones, historic or record attendance, historic performances, etc. Please the briefing for guidance.
The Portland Timbers have a long-running rivalry with North Western neighbours the Seattle Sounders FC and the Vancouver Whitecaps FC. The Seattle-Portland rivalry escalated in 2013 when the Timbers eliminated the Sounders in the MLS playoffs, the first time they faced each other in an MLS postseason matchup. The three teams also compete in the Cascadia Cup with the Timbers playing catch up in overall wins despite winning in 2012. The rivalries in the MLS are matched in the USL with both the Vancouver Whitecaps and Seattle Sounders running second sides. The challenge for the T2 players is to break into the senior side and try to mirror some of the first teams's success, with the first team winning the regular Season in 2013 and the MLS Cup in 2015.
