How the World Cup competition works
The Ski Jumping World Cup was founded by Torbjørn Yggeseth first took place in 1979/80 and a female side to the competition was later added in 2011/12. Each World Cup season consists of between 25 and 30 competitions often with two competitions at the same location during a single weekend, so there is plenty of opportunity to enjoy the action. Each competition begins with a qualifying round, followed by a first and second round to determine the final positions of the competitors. The 10 highest ranked FIS competitors avoid the qualifying round and go straight through to the first round while the remaining competitors have to earn one of the 40 remaining first round spots. In the second round is for the top 30 finishers and they are awarded World Cup points based on their finishing positions. The winner receives 100 points, and the point decrease until the person in 30th position receives a single World Cup point.

While rounds of the competition are held predominantly in Europe there have been at least 64 different locations, in 20 countries around the world that have played host to at least one round of the competition.
