Snowboarding - The Games in Pyeongchang History
Snowboarding is a relatively young sport by Winter Sports standards. It was developed in the USA in the 1960s as people looked for new winter activities. Interestingly, this new sport faced intense opposition from skiers and ski resorts who wanted to ban the snowboarders from 'their' mountains. Now, the sport is well established and snowboarding tickets are always highly sought after at the Games. Both Men's and Women's snowboarding made their debuts at the 1998 games in Nagano with just two events - giant slalom and halfpipe. Since then the popularity of snowboarding as a winter sport has skyrocketed and now it is, without doubt, one of the most popular events at the Games every four winters.
It's difficult to talk about Snowboarding at the Games in Pyeongchang without mentioning Shaun White. The American is one of only three competitors to have won two gold medals and was the most talked about athlete at Sochi. The other two are Philipp Schoch from Switzerland and fellow American Seth Wescott. Will we see more double-gold medal winners in 2018, get your tickets to find out.
